CSC lauds Rice Mushroom Production as Semi-Finalist for Pagasa Award

The Civil Service Commission (CSC), as administrator of the Honor Awards Program once again recognized the efforts of the Bataan Peninsula State University Community-Based Rice Mushroom Production (CBRMP) team as they were hailed as one of the Semi-Finalist for the Pagasa Award Group Category held at the University Library-BPSU Main Campus, January 5.

Project Leader Dr. Rina Q. Paguia led the CBRMP, together with team members Mr. Christian M. Balba and Ms. Mirasol M. Rosano.

“Mahirap po talaga pag nasa field ka, kakausapin mo yung mga magsasaka na may kanya kanya ng sariling karunungan na sa isang iglap ay baguhin ang kanilang nakasanayan”, Paguia shared during her acceptance speech.

The team advanced to the second level screening where the National Committee on Awards deliberated on the extraordinary accomplishments and exemplary ethical behavior of the regional winners and shortlisted as one of the semi-finalists of the Search.

“We are extremely honored to receive such important award from Civil Service Commission - Honor Award Program, Pagasa award, we are grateful for the recognition we received for our labor or for our endeavor. We have faced several challenges, but each of them has only strengthens us”, Paguia said.

CSC released the list of the 41 semi-finalists to the 2022 Search for Outstanding Government Workers.

There are 7 individuals and 5 groups that made it as semi-finalists to the CSC Pagasa Award while 5 individual and 8 group semi-finalists for the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award. Meanwhile, 16 exemplary civil servants were hailed as semi-finalists for the Dangal ng Bayan Award.

This program began in 2018 with the initiative of Dr. Paguia to culture mushrooms on rice straws which were initially burned to serve as either an alternative organic fertilizer or pest damage controller after the rice was harvested.

The said project promoted the viability of an integrated farming system through community-based rice - mushroom, vermin composting, and off-season eggplant and tomato production among rice farmers in the province.

Present in the awarding ceremony were CSC Region 3 (CSCRO3) Honor Awards Program Director IV Fernando O. Mendoza, CSCRO3 Field Office Director II Edgardo C. Cruz, Public Assistance and Liaison Division (PALD) Chief Personnel Specialist Melindy B. Twaño and PALD Personnel Specialist II Edgardo T. Dizon.

BPSU President Dr. Gregorio J. Rodis, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Edmundo C. Tungol, Vice President for Research, Extension and Training Services Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Emmanuel C. Macaraeg, Director of Extension and Training Services Dr. Bernadeth B. Gabor and Head of Public Affairs Office and In-Charge of International Affairs Office Dr. Flora D. Canare also graced the event to show support to the semi-finalists.

In pursuant to Executive Order No. 292, s. 1987 and its implementing rules and regulations, CSC Pagasa Award is given to an individual or group for outstanding contributions resulting from an idea or performance that directly benefits more than one department of the government.
