Participation to the Launching of Soil Conservation Guided Farm in Dinalupihan

The Soil Conservation Guided Farm in Brgy. Payangan, Dinalupihan, Bataan a collaborative project of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM), Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), some Local Government Units (LGUs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) , had its launching on July 30, 2010.

A program was held to formally launch the Soil Conservation Guided Farm with the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for Field Operations, Hon. Joel Rudinas, as the keynote speaker.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was also conducted in the presence of Dr. Silvino Q. Tejada CESO III, Director of Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM); Dr. Gregorio J. Rodis, BPSU’s VP for Research, Extension and Auxiliary Services; Dr. Redentor S. Gatus, DA’s Regional Executive Director, Regional Field Unit III; Mrs. Arlene D. Ibaňez, BPSU-RDO Director; Dir. Herminio L. Miguel of Abucay Campus, and Engr. Samuel M. Contreras, Chief of the Soil Conservation Management Division of BSWM.

Usec Joel Rudinas, in his keynote speech, stressed the significance of this project in overcoming the continues degradation of soil and other natural resources brought about by climate change.

He even commented on the possibility of the project’s expansion not only in Payangan but also in other sloping areas of Bataan, as well. In addition, he disclosed the benefits that farmers could get from the technologies and other innovative farming practices to be introduced by the faculty researchers of BPSU Abucay Campus.

Abucay Campus’ research and extension offices are headed by Engr. Jonathan E. Lacayanga and Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia, respectively, in cooperation with the authorities of the DA-BSWM Region III.

Completing the launching were the messages delivered by Cong. Herminia Roman of the First District of Bataan, Mayor Joel Jaime P. Payumo of Dinalupihan, Dr. Silvino Q. Tejada and VP Gregorio Rodis.

Also present on the event were Pastor. Carlito O. Pagulayan of Bataan Full Gospel Church, Brgy. Capt. Erlinda Lerma of Payangan, Municipal Agriculturist Fidel Felipe, and the farmers of Payangan who were able to finish the one-day training given on July 20, 2010 as preliminary activity by the BPSU faculty researchers headed by Engr. Jonathan Lacayanga and Engr. Walter G. Valdez.
