BPSU embarks on ORGANIC Revolution PDF Print E-mail

This article is part of the coffee table book “Channels of Progress Bringing Innovations Closer to People” published by the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), headed by its Director, Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar, as part of the celebration of BAR's 25th year of serving the public.

An agricultural revolution of the organic kind is unfolding in the province of Bataan, which has become synonymous with heroism and love for country due to its place in Philippine history.

In this province that depends largely on agriculture for its income, an increasing number of farmers are adopting the organic way of raising their crops and turning their back on using synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides to boost output.

This trend was brought on by the increasing consumer demand for healthier food as well as the realization that the land is losing its nutrients because of widespread use of chemical fertilizers.
