Orani Campus' BS Fisheries program offers scholarship grant

The Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) Orani Campus' Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BSF) grants scholarship to deserving students. It is on its second year since it started in the First Semester of Academic Year 2010-2011.The student grantees are required to pay only the miscellaneous fee. Fifteen (15) and twenty eight (28) first year students had availed the scholarship in AY 2010-2011and AY 2011-2012 respectively.

The program is anchored on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 43 Series of 2006 entitled Policies and Standards for Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BSFi) Program. It is in accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994,” and by virtue of Resolution No. 603 of the commission en banc dated September 11, 2006 and for the purpose of rationalizing the undergraduate fisheries education in the country with the end view of keeping at pace with the demands of global competitiveness.

The BSF Program is designed to (1) educate students in the field of fisheries who can contribute to the country’s need for sustainable and responsible fisheries and proper concepts of fisheries management, environmental management and multi-sectoral approach to coastal management; (2) make students knowledgeable in statistical tools, computer use, social equity, extension service, economics and proper handling of fish to reduce losses; (3) help students acquire knowledge and competencies in all aspects of fisheries such as aquaculture, capture fisheries, post-harvest fisheries, aquatic resources and aquatic ecology; and (4) be capable to do research.
